FAQ
Do I need a license?
YES! A Saltwater fishing license is required. If you don't have one, we sell 1-Day licenses for $10. A license is required for everyone age 15 and up.
Do I need a catch record card?
Anyone fishing for Salmon or Halibut must have the appropriate catch record card for the species. If you are buying a 1-day license from us, one will be provided.
Do you fillet my fish?
If you would like, the deckhands will fillet your catch for a fee.
Can I bring my own rod?
That is fine but there are a couple stipulations. NO BRAIDED LINE (fire line, tuff line, spider wire, dacron, etc) except on Deepwater Lingcod and Halibut trips. We use 30-40 pound test clear mono on salmon and 40 pound test on bottomfish reels. We’ve experienced braided lines just don’t mix well in the charter boat environment. These lines are so strong (a little too strong) and thin to the point of being dangerous, especially when snagged on the bottom. Knot tying, tangles, and fouling in the boats running gear are also problematic.
What should I wear?
Dress in layers. Coastal weather can be much different than inland. Boots or rubber soled shoes are recommended.
What do I need to bring?
Lunch (coffee is provided)
Wear boots if you have them, or rubber soled shoes
Your lucky hat
Sunglasses
Jacket (you can always remove it)
Rain Gear
Seasick medicine (just in case)
Small coolers only. No room for huge coolers on the boat.
Cash for onboard fillet fees and to tip your deckhand
Most of all a good night’s sleep!
Can weather affect my trip?
Sometimes. The safety of our customers is our number one concern. We do fish in the rain, but sometimes mother nature gives us a little more wind or swell than we like which forces us to cancel the trip. We try to give you as much notice as we can when making these calls.
Should I worry about seasickness?
If you are concerned about motion sickness, we recommend buying an over-the-counter medication, such as Bonine or Dramamine. We recommend taking a dose before bed and another in the morning before coming to the boat. As with all medications, check with your doctor.
Do you have an age requirement?
We recommend kids be at least 8 years old. Rockfish/Lingcod trips are a good starter trip to get them aquainted with ocean fishing.
Do I need to know how to fish?
Absolutely not! Just come with a great attitude and be ready to have a fun time. The crew will show you how the gear works, and the techniques needed to catch the big one!
How far offshore do you fish?
Generally we travel between 6 and 20 miles for Salmon and Bottomfish and 25-50 miles for Halibut and Deepwater Lingcod.
How long will the trip last?
Departure times vary but we generally return around 3pm everyday. If limits are achieved early, we will return early.
Is there a bathroom onboard?
Yes there is a fully enclosed toilet and sink for your use.
Can I bring a cooler?
If you need to, bring a small one for your lunch. There's limited storage onboard. If you brought a bigger cooler for your fish, leave it in your vehicle until after the trip.
Can I bring alcohol?
Beer and Seltzers are fine (in moderation). Please no hard alcohol
Marijuana is legal in Washington, can I bring some?
NO! We are Federally licensed and marijuana used in any form on the vessel will not be tolerated.
What's your cancellation policy?
Cancellation notice must be given 21 days in advance for all Salmon, Bottomfish and Combo trips. Halibut and Deepwater Lingcod are 60 days. If cancelled within the 21 or 60 days, you are required to pay for your spots in full unless we are able to fill them. Anyone who shows up intoxicated will not be allowed to go fishing, and they will not be given a refund. No exceptions.
Can I have my fillets vacuum sealed or frozen?
We do not offer this on the vessel, but Merino's will vacuum seal, freeze, hold, and/or ship your catch to you! You can find them at 301 E. Harbor St.
